Welcome

Southern Arts Academy was founded in September 2004 by Katrina Parsons in Southwick; the academy started with around 60 pupils aged between 3 and 103 and trained in dance, drama and singing.

In September 2005 we incorporated the Alexandra school of dance and the academy grew to over 150 pupils, as a result we expanded from teaching three days a week to five and started teaching at Denmead and Horndean.

In March 2006 we had our class exams with 100% pass rate and in April 2006 was our first two-day intense workshop with Tim Noble, Kylie Minogue's director.

The academy itself trains as a performing school rather than focusing on exams; we believe that the most valid source of skill, knowledge and technique in the performing arts is to be found before audiences night after night, on stage.

We enter students for the All England competitions and we have our own agency where I can send pupils to take part in auditions, modeling, TV commercials and shows. We have had many successful students go on to professional level who are now training or performing in London.

In the year 2008/2009 we were pleased to announce that 2 students won a place for the Youth Ballet company. 1 student has got through to the England Tap Group and former pupil Georgina Hull is continuing her education at Twing Arts College.

Also this year the Senior Hip-Hop group got through to the semi finals of Dance Idol 2008 and the first auditions of Britain’s Got Talent.

The Teachers took part in an ITV dance show called Everybody Dance Now hosted by Ferne Cotton and we took 25 students to Move It, dance exhibition in London, where they took part in 5 dance workshops with professional dancers.

The West End group in December 2008 were once again fantastic and looking forward to this years show in November 2009.

We like to introduce many different opportunities for our pupils so they are always learning new ideas and can build up a professional portfolio for their future careers. We always welcome new members to the academy but have limited places available as we like to keep classes to a maximum of 16. So if you would like to be a student at Southern Arts Academy then please don’t hesitate to contact us.
