Our Founder

Southern Arts Academy was formed in 2004 by founder Katrina Excell

Katrina first started training at the age of 4 where she first found her love for dance; at the age of 16 Katrina had danced with the English National Ballet and competed at the All England dance finals.

She then went on to study A level dance and Advanced GNVQ diploma in performing arts before taking her teaching exams. After many years of doing exams she then went on to train at the BBC centre in Hertfordshire weekly to perform in the West End whilst teaching part time in Hampshire. In September 2004 Katrina formed Southern Arts Academy and has since been a dancer on ITV “Everybody dance now” and Sky One ”Just dance” as well as teaching b-tec and GCSE dance in schools.

In 2010 she decided to take more teaching exams in tap and modern and is now currently choreographing and directing her own shows and running a successful dance school. Katrina is on her way to gaining her ISTD Licentiate qualification.
